MiDAS is the Minibus Driver Awareness Scheme, organised by the Community Transport Association U.K. (CTA) which promotes a nationally recognised standard for the assessment and training of minibus drivers.
It is a membership based scheme that is designed to enhance minibus driving standards and promote the safer operation of minibuses, currently there are over 5,000 member organisations throughout the UK.
5 Steps to Safety: Minibus Emergency Evacuation
Programme Duration:
The MiDAS - 5 Steps to Safety Emergency Evacuation Course last for a half day. This is an excellent course aimed at providing drivers & trainers the skills necessary to deal with a dangerous & potentially life threatening situation. This is an essential course for both minibus drivers and passenger assistants.
Aims:
To prepare drivers to cope with the difficulties they may encounter & how to deal with them when faced with the need to evacuate.
Objectives:
Recognise common causes of vehicle fires

Know how to reduce the risk of vehicle fires

Know when and how to use a fire extinguisher

Know how to safely evacuate a vehicle
Programme Outline:
Designed to ensure that staff and drivers are equipped with the knowledge & understanding of the problems involved in dealing with the dangers of a minibus fire & to manage the safety of the occupants.
Classroom:
Initial classroom theory will familiarise clients with the risks & dangers of a vehicle fire & provides an easy to follow protocol to ensure the safe vehicle evacuation.
Practical Session:
Clients will have the opportunity to put into practice what has been discussed in the theory session.
Smoke generators are used in a minibus to allow drivers to experience the process of minibus evacuation.
The local fire service will need to be informed that smoke generators are being used on the day of training, in case members of the public call in to the emergency services.
